“If you always watch him at the top of your head,
you will always feel that you are the living power of God.”

Initiation into Kriya Yoga

For generations, Kriya teachings have been handed down through an unbroken lineage of God-realized masters, which began in 1861 with Mahavatar Babaji when he re-introduced Kriya Yoga to modern times through his disciple Lahiri Mahasaya.

Initiation is a sacred purification and blessing ceremony that can only be performed by a Realised Yogi. In order to practice authentic Kriya Yoga one must first receive Initiation and learn the Kriya Yoga technique from an authentic Kriya Yoga teacher.

During Initiation, the spine and chakras of the Kriya Yoga student are purified by the teacher. Paramahamsa Prajnanananda or one of his appointed teachers will personally conduct all Initiations and give instructions on the Kriya Yoga technique.

What happens during Initiation?

The following is a rough guide to the Initiation Program which usually lasts one and a half days.

Day One

The Kriya program usually starts with an introductory lecture followed by Initiation into the authentic and original Kriya Yoga. This involves a holy ceremony and purification whereby the spine, body and senses of the individual are purified through the direct touch of the Guru.

Paramahamsa Prajnanananda then guides the initiate to experience the triple divine qualities of sound, light, and vibration, enabling each seeker to perceive within themselves the inner light of the soul, hear within them divine sound and feel within their body the divine movement. This is the first phase of the ceremony.

Further purification ensues from the breath oblations in the fire ceremony. Offerings are then made to God and Gurus. Paramahamsa Prajnanananda then instructs seekers in the first stage of Kriya Yoga known as the First Kriya.

Questions are answered on technique practice.

Refreshments and lunch provided on the day and there is a long break in the afternoon. The day finishes with a guided meditation.

Day Two

Day Two is slightly shorter than Saturday and we finish by lunch. Paramahamsa Prajnanananda leads two guided meditations, giving additional explanations and time for questions and practice.
